About First Baptist Church
Our History
Our History
January of 1989 Pastor Wicks moved to Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He knew God was
calling him to this small city for a special purpose. When Pastor Wicks arrived, there
were just three elderly members in the church. The church was dying, with little hope
for life. Yet Pastor Wicks and these 3 faithful members stayed strong. They wanted to
see God work through the church to be an influence in their community.
Pastor Wicks worked tirelessly trying to lead and grow this needy church all the
while working a full-time secular job. He established a motto for the church: "Our
goal is to teach and preach Bible principles and Bible commands to produce
balanced Christians." It was with this motto in mind and heart that the First Baptist
Church came back to life!
Within 2 years, the congregation grew to 92. By 1995, they were averaging over 170
people! In 1999, the First Baptist School was started. The school first started with 1st
- 6th grades. Since then, it has grown to a full K-12 traditional school. God has
provided a wonderful facility on 814 Main Street for the school to meet. The church
grew in many other areas as well; we started bus routes, jail ministry, nursing home
ministry, and many other avenues that reach out to the community.
Today, the First Baptist Church is a focal point in the city of Plattsmouth. We have
grown to average over 300 people in a Sunday service. We have 30 Sunday School
classes to reach the needs of every individual.
Words could not describe the miracle God has done with 3 faithful members and a
willing servant of God. The victories we've seen, the souls won to Christ, and the
lives changed are all by God's amazing grace. All the glory belongs to Him!
